Do What You Love, Love What You Do

Sure, entrepreneurial success comes from hard work, long hours and the right idea at the right time.  But there is one factor of starting your own business that may get pushed aside—starting a business that you absolutely love.

The truth of the matter is; the most successful entrepreneurs and small business owners are the ones that are happy with what they do.  They do not focus on the revenue, but rather, the sense of worth that they gain when working to improve the world.  They don’t focus on the profits that they see, but instead, the passion that they have for providing an amazing product or service.  It’s the people who choose a business based on what they love that find the most success and the most happiness.

How do you know that you’ll love the business you start?  There are some quick, easy guidelines to deciding if your new startup will become your number one passion.

Choose a business that you’re good at. Be sure to choose a business in which you can use your skills and abilities to their maximum potential.  Everybody knows what they excel in most, and excelling at specific activities allows people to feel accomplished and a sense of self-worth at the end of the day.  Put your expertise to the test by researching your abilities and the jobs that they best can be used for.  Then go for it!

Choose a business that makes the time go by fast. If five hours seem like one, and one hour seems like twenty seconds, then you have found something that you love to do.  When we are enjoying what we are doing, the time seems to fly by.  Choosing a business that allows you to do what you love to do will make it easy for you to put in the time and effort into building that particular business.

Choose a business that makes you feel good. When we do things that make us feel good, we become more fulfilled and, of course, happier.  This can translate to a more positive work-life balance, a happier home, and a happier business.  Happier businesses provide more productive and effective employees, and in the long run, can generate more profits.  Everything goes hand-in-hand!
