Herb is the definition of a big thinker. Being an extremely successful businessman in Kansas City, Herb's advice is sought after by many movers and shakers in the Kansas City community. He's started numerous companies, and also been involved in the turnaround of many in need of a little direction.

Top 10 Cities for Young Entrepreneurs

Recently Under30CEO ran a poll to find out what the best cities in the United States were for young entrepreneurs. The poll asked the Under30CEO readers to place their vote or submit the city of their choice if it wasn't listed. We asked everyone to not only think about the business climate and resources but to also consider the social scene and even weather. Young entrepreneurs want to run a successful business but they also take into consideration their lifestyle and where they can find both personal and business happiness. The results are below for the top cities for young entrepreneurs in 2011.

Businesses Question Google's Fiber Project

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Google fiber project will mean super-fast internet capability for Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. But some local groups say it's all lost unless there are useful ways to take advantage of it.

THE GIGABIT CHALLENGE WITH THINK BIG PARTNERS

As ideas start pouring in through our online survey, we're really excited to see what others are doing to start taking advantage of gigabit infrastructure.

We were especially pleased to see the Gigabit Challenge announced by Think Big Partners. While Building the Gigabit City is designed to generate hundreds of ideas, the Gigabit Challenge is aimed at helping cultivate high potential ideas and providing resources for entrepreneurs to execute on ideas that can help transform our region.

Through happy accident, the Gigabit Challenge opens on October 3rd--the very day we'll gather leaders from around the community and have an initial, public unveiling of preliminary. Mike Brown and I had a chance to meet with Think Big yesterday and look forward to working together on these initiatives. We've got great things happening here in Kansas City!

What was the challenge your business was facing as a result of the economy?

Think Big Partners was just an idea in 2008. In 2009, right in the middle of the recession, the company was being launched in Kansas City. Think Big Partners had to face the deteriorating economy and overcome the "start-up odds" at the same time.
